RIGA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, who arrived in Riga for a visit on Friday, met with top Latvian state officials for talks on the European Union's (EU) future and security, local media reported.

At a joint news conference following Pellegrini's talks with Krisjanis Karins, his Latvian counterpart, the prime ministers underlined their countries' common interest in the EU.

Latvia and Slovakia have a good relationship and they do not have serious disagreements, Karins told reporters.

Karins noted that Latvia and Slovakia both want the EU's cohesion policy to continue to promote the development of less prosperous members of the bloc.

Pellegrini agreed that the two countries held similar views on issues concerning the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework, cohesion policy and farming subsidies.

During his visit to Riga, the Slovak prime minister also met with Latvian President Egils Levits. Enditem
