KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Safawid Rasid's pair helped Malaysia defeat visiting Indonesia 2-0 here on Tuesday in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup 2023 second round Group G.
Rasid scored on a freekick in a good position after drawing a foul in the 30th minute to make it 1-0, before he added another one in the 73rd minute, stealing the ball from defender Yanto Basna before smashing it past the goalkeeper.
Playing aggressively, the Malaysian team made several attempts but the Indonesians held their own, effectively blocking most attacks.
Meanwhile, the other Group G match between Vietnam and Thailand ended 0-0 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Vietnam maintained its group leader position with 11 points, Malaysia second by 9 points, and Thailand by 8. United Arab Emirates, the seed and the only non-Southeast Asian team in the group, ranks 4th, ahead of Indonesia which has suffered five consecutive losses.??
