GAZA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The casualty toll from a series of Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday has grown to at least four Palestinians dead, including a senior Islamic Jihad militant and his wife, and more than 25 others injured.

On Tuesday afternoon, more rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel while Israeli fighter planes responded by targeting military facilities, military posts and training camps that belong to the Islamic Jihad.

The Gaza Health Ministry said in a statement that a 25-year-old young man, identified as Zaki Ghanam, was killed in an Israeli airstrike near the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia.

Sources close to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad said Ghanam is a member of the Islamic Jihad's squad that is responsible for firing rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

The Health Ministry said earlier in a press statement that a 20-year-old Palestinian was killed by an Israeli missile when driving a motorbike in northern Gaza.

Earlier in the day, the Islamic Jihad said in an official statement that 42-year-old Baha Abu al-Atta, leader of al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, was killed together with his wife in the Israeli airstrikes.

Israeli warplanes struck the house of Abu al-Atta in al-Shejaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, with two other Palestinians in the neighborhood injured.

On Tuesday afternoon, thousands of Palestinian mourners buried the body of Abu al-Atta and his wife while calling for revenge.

The airstrike on eastern Gaza City coincided with another one targeting the house of Akram Ajouri, a member of the Islamic Jihad politburo in Syria, killing his son and a bodyguard.
