MANILA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- A brave dog that fought off a spitting cobra in southern Philippines Kidapawan province died from a snake bite, according to the dog's owner in a Facebook post.
Jaime Bugtay Selim said in his post on Friday that the black Dachshund dog, which he named Miley, died minutes after the cobra sank its fangs into it.
The man's other white Dachshund dog that also fought off the cobra got hit in the eye by the venom, causing it to go blind although it survived the attack.
According to Selim, the incident happened on Friday when the snake entered their front-yard and tried to enter the main house where Selim's one-year-old baby boy Skye was fast asleep.
"Miley, thank you for protecting Skye," Selim said above the picture of the dead dog and snake.
Footage of the incident from one of Selim's CCTV cameras showed the dogs attacking the snake by repeatedly biting it. The cobra snake also spewed venom.
Selim said he was grateful to his two dogs for they "exceptional courage" in ensuring his family's safety.
