ISLAMABAD, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Two separate road accidents that took place in different areas of Pakistan on Friday morning left 16 people killed and three others injured, local media reported.
In the first accident, a passenger jeep fell into the River Indus in the country's northwest district of Kohistan, killing 11 tourists and leaving three others wounded, the reports said.
All the deceased belonged to the same family, who were on their way to Dasu area from Seo area of the district located in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Rescue teams along with divers rushed to the site and managed to pull out the bodies from the river whose water is flowing at a higher current these days.
Police said the vehicle fell into the river after the driver failed to control the speed at a sharp turn in the mountainous region.
Later in another incident, five people riding a motorcycle drowned in a canal in Ghotki district of the country's southwest Sindh province.
The deceased who belong to the same family included two women and two children.
Rescuers have been searching the bodies but could not succeed after several hours. Local people urged the authorities to stop water supply to the canal so that the bodies can be searched easily.
