KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Six security personnel have been confirmed dead as a clash erupted in Miwand district of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Thursday night, district police chief Hajji Lala said Friday.
A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, stormed security checkpoints in Miwand bazaar area of Miwand district late Thursday night, triggering a gun battle. During the battle, six police personnel were killed and four others injured.
Taliban militants fled the area after suffering casualties, the official said, without giving an exact figure of the militants' casualties.
Taliban militants have not commented yet.
