BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- China saw significant improvements in transport, telecom network and energy production over the past 70 years, official data showed.
The country's transport network saw notable expansion from 1949 to 2018. By the end of 2018, the total railway operation mileage reached 131,000 km, five times higher than 1949, while the high-speed railway exceeded 29,000 km, accounting for more than 60 percent of the world's total, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics.
Inland waterways have expanded 72.7 percent to 127,000 km in mileage, while civil aviation flight routes surged 734 times from 1950, to 8.38 million km in 2018.
Telecom networks also reported fast expansion. Postal service branches increased 9.4 times over the seven decades, reaching 275,000 across the country. China's mobile broadband network users expanded to 1.31 billion in 2018.
Robust growth has been registered in China's energy supply. The country's energy output totaled 3.77 billion tonnes of standard coal in 2018, increasing 158 times compared with 1949, while the installed capacity reached 1.9 billion kilowatt, 33.3 times that in 1978.
