LANZHOU, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Mora than 1,100 Lanzhou University alumni took part in the Lanzhou International Marathon Sunday as a way to celebrate the university's 110th anniversary.
The alumni office at the university told Xinhua that these alumni are from all walks of life, coming from different cities across China.
Liu Xuemei, a quite experienced marathon enthusiast, is now working at the media in southwest city Chengdu after graduating from Lanzhou University in Gansu Province.
"I am so proud of my university and many thanks for the organization for our alumni. I feel back at home although I have graduated for almost 20 years. The full-marathon is not hard at all because of people's great enthusiasm," She said.
Yan Chunhua, president of Lanzhou University, made a speech to welcome the alumni and encouraged them to get a good result before the event.
The one-day event includes full marathon, half marathon, and 5km races, attracting over 40,000 participants from 19 countries and regions.
