KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Four people including a police and three militants were confirmed dead and five others sustained injuries as Taliban militants stormed a police checkpoint in Ali Abad district of the northern Kunduz province on Tuesday, a police spokesman for the restive province Inamudin Rahmani said.
According to the official, a group of Taliban insurgents stormed a police checkpoint in Ali Abad district Tuesday morning. Police returned fire, killing three attackers on the spot and forcing the militants to flee.
However, Rahmani has confirmed that one police constable had been killed in the firefight lasted for a while.
Two police and three armed insurgents were also injured in the fighting, the official said.
Taliban militants haven't commented.
