KUNMING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from six Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) countries met from Tuesday to Wednesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, to mark the success of a joint epidemic prevention platform.

The platform for preventing and controlling arbovirus diseases, set up in 2018, has strengthened cross-border disease monitoring, prediction and alert as well as information sharing between the countries, according to the meeting.

So far, the platform has collected nearly 200,000 pieces of information including mosquito-borne and infectious diseases monitoring data, geographical data, metrological data, remote sensing data and social and cultural conditions in the region.

Malaria and dengue fever are major epidemics in the Lancang-Mekong sub-region and have been on the rise due to increasing cross-border exchanges in recent years.

The Chinese government signed an agreement with Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand in March 2018 to increase coordination and deepen cooperation on joint disease prevention and control, talent cultivation, and joint research.
