Rome to host 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships

LONDON, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Rome has been chosen as the host city of the 2021 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, the second time for the Italian capital to stage the beach volleyball worlds since 2011, world volleyball goerning body FIVB has announced in a statement.

The Championships form a central part of the joint 2019-2022 strategy from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) and the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), with the aim to develop beach volleyball in Italy and bring flagship beach volleyball events to the country each year.

"The aim is to continue the success of beach volleyball after the Olympic Games and establish an elite event series that is built around the players," the statement said.

FIVB President Ary Graca said: "Italy is dedicated to hosting key FIVB events annually, including the FIVB World Tour Finals this year and the 2021 FIVB World Championships, both of which will take place in the famous Foro Italico venue".

The World Tour Finals will be held in Rome from September 4-8 with a total prize purse of 600,000 US dollars and a main draw of 32 teams per gender, as well as points counting towards qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
