KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- One Afghan police officer and a militant were killed and two police personnel wounded following a militant shooting attack in Kandahar, capital of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Thursday, provincial government said.
"Two militants fired on a police unit in Baro Darwaza area of Police District 4 in Kandahar city at evening. The police followed the attackers, killing one and arresting another in Darwaza-e-Kabul neighborhood," the government said in a statement.
The wounded were shifted to nearby hospital and the arrested man was handed over to a related department for questioning, the statement added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet.
Security situation has been improving in the province, the former stronghold of Taliban, within recent months, as Afghan forces have conducted search and cordon operations there.
But the militants still attack government interests in the province from time to time.
