BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- President of Xinhua News Agency Cai Mingzhao met with director general of Russia's Tass news agency Sergey Mikhaylov on Wednesday, and the two sides pledged to enhance ties.
Cai said that Xinhua has always been committed to playing its media role in the development of Sino-Russian relations, and regards Tass as a close partner.
As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, Cai said he expected the two news agencies to work to consolidate friendly exchanges, earnestly plan and organize a series of activities for this year, in efforts to make new contributions to the development of China-Russian relations.
Mikhaylov, who was on a visit to Xinhua, said that the two news agencies shared traditional friendship, and the two sides' cooperation had played a model role in promoting the development of bilateral relations.
He said Tass was ready to take the opportunity of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China to enhance mutual visits and media cooperation between the two news agencies.
