BEIRUT, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's Defense Minister Elias Bou Saab said on Wednesday that Lebanon is keen to receive military aid from the United States to modernize the Lebanese army, local media reported.

"We are looking forward to receiving more military aid from the U.S. to help to modernize our army and enable it to use advanced technology in all areas," Bou Saab was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

Bou Saab's remarks came during his meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard to discuss the potential of enhancing cooperation between the armies of the two countries.

Richard said that the U.S. is committed to pursuing its aid program to the Lebanese army, adding that the U.S. is the biggest provider of arms and military equipment for Lebanon.

The Lebanese army has received a total of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in military aid from successive U.S. administrations since the war with Israel in 2006.
