COLOMBO, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday felicitated the police officers who performed their duties well in combating the narcotic menace, a statement from the president's office said.
According to the statement, the president awarded certificates to 1,000 police officers who performed their duties fearlessly in combatting drug trafficking.
The president requested all the Sri Lankan people extend their fullest possible cooperation to eradicate the drug menace from the country, and eradication of this menace should be a national priority for all.
The president pledged to establish a rehabilitation center for the benefit of drug addicts in the country.
