xinKAMPALA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Top Mozambican Basketball Premier League team Ferroviario da Beira has signed Ugandan international Robinson Odoch Opong.
The prolific three-point shooter who has featured on Uganda's national team for the last five years was signed together with two Serbians Bozo Djumic and Vuk Jovanovic.
"I am happy to be joining a very competitive team and I hope I can help the team win trophies in Mozambique and at the international stage," Opong told Xinhua on Monday.
Opong said that he is lucky to join the team when they will be heading to the Federation of International Basketball Association Africa Basketball League 2019 in Egypt next month.
"It is one of the most competitive tournaments in Africa and I am looking forward to play well," added Opong.
Opong's new team has been grouped alongside Al Ahly (Egypt), Primeiro de Agosto (Angola) and REG (Rwanda) for the Championship which will take place in the Egyptian capital Cairo from Feb. 8-10.
Ambrose Tashobya, president Federation of Uganda Basketball Association said he was happy that Opong has joined another top team in Africa.
"This is good news because when we have several national players feature for other teams in other countries then it brings more exposure and professionalism in Uganda national team," he said.
