LUSAKA, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Wednesday said he wants to accelerate the investigations into the misapplication of donor funds meant to help the vulnerable in the country.

He made the statement during an annual greeting ceremony of diplomats at the State House.

Lungu said he will not condone the abuse of donor funds and warned of dealing with all those found responsible in accordance with the law.

He assured the diplomats that his administration will maintain transparency and accountability in the use of public resources, and said he is looking forward to working with cooperation partners in the fight against corruption.

Last year, it is reported that about 4 million U.S. dollars meant to support the vulnerable had been misappropriated. Britain and Finland, among the funders of the donation, suspended their aid to Zambia after the reports.

The Zambian government thereafter launched investigations into the misappropriation and fired a minister who was in charge of the funding scheme.
