BELGRADE, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Monaco beat Serbian Partizan 72-68 in the Round 3 of the Top 16 phase of the basketball Eurocup in Belgrade on Tuesday.
The match was almost dominated by the guest team both in attack and defence.
The Group E duel in front of some 6,500 fans at the Aleksandar Nikolic hall started with a 6-0 series of Gerald Robinson who built the initial lead for Monaco.
Nikola Jankovic of Partizan scored most of the points to keep his team near the opponent, but Robinson scored another field goal just before the break.
In the second quarter, Monaco created a 6-0 series thanks to Elmedin Kikanovic and Eric Buckner under the hoops, and expanded it further to 14-point lead before the half-time.
The third quarter started in the sign of Jarrod Jones who widened the gap to 17 points, while Sergii Gladyr and Derek Needham took over the momentum and expanded the advantage of Monaco further.
Partizan managed to narrowed the gap in the final quarter thanks to three-pointers of Bandja Sy and Jock Landale, but Monaco's shooters maintained the lead until the final whistle.
Best in the French team was Jarrod Jones with 16 points, followed by Paul Lacombe with 12 points, while in Partizan's ranks, the most efficient was Aleksej Nikolic with 16 points.
Partizan and Monaco will meet again next week in France in Round 4.
