SIEM REAP, Cambodia, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) was officially launched here on Tuesday, aiming at promoting cultural diversity and forging cooperation among countries in the region.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen presided over the launching ceremony, which was attended by more than 800 guests from around the world.

Hun Sen said the ACC was established in 2018 by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

The council is recognized by the UNESCO after a tripartite agreement - among UNESCO, ICAPP, and ACC - was signed on Dec. 4, 2018 in Siem Reap province, he said.

"The ACC opens a new chapter for international cooperation in cultural sector for the interest of human beings in the region," Hun Sen said.

He added that it would contribute to promoting cultural exchanges, advancing the values of unity within diversity, connecting civilizations, and building interfaith harmony.

According to a press statement released at the ceremony, the ACC is committed to promoting synergies between culture, peace, sustainable development, human connectivity and innovation.

The statement said the ACC will build and expand its partnerships across Asia and beyond in order to realize its vision and mission to serve as an international platform for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
