SYDNEY, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Two armed men have surrendered after barricading themselves inside a unit and firing a shot at the police in Brisbane, Australia on Monday.
The six-hour siege ended as the armed men handed themselves over to the police with no other shots fired.
The unit was located close to central Brisbane, causing major traffic disruption as police locked down the area.
Inspector Tony Ridge said the police were fired on when they first attended the scene on a routine investigation at 11:00 a.m. local time, causing them to declare an emergency and shut down traffic in the area.
Several people were evacuated and ferry travel on the nearby Brisbane River was suspended.
The men were reportedly only renting the unit overnight and police said they have recovered several firearms from the property.
