RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras moved to within one match of securing their 10th Brazilian Serie A title after a 4-0 rout of America Mineiro on Wednesday.
Luan, Willian, Dudu and Deyverson all struck second-half goals as the Sao Paulo outfit recorded their 21st win in 36 matches this term.
A victory over struggling Vasco da Gama on Sunday would clinch Palmeiras their second Serie A crown in three years.
It would represent redemption of sorts for manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, four and a half years after his Brazil team lost 7-1 at home to Germany in the semifinals of the World Cup - widely considered the most humiliating result in the country's proud football history.
Scolari, who tasted World Cup glory during his first spell as Brazil coach in 2002, has led Palmeiras to 14 wins and six draws in 20 top flight matches since replacing Roger Machado in late July. This is his third spell in charge of the club.
In other Brazilian Serie A matches on Wednesday, Atletico Mineiro won 2-1 at Internacional, Botafogo drew 1-1 at Santos, Atletico Paranaense secured a 1-0 home victory over Corinthians, Cruzeiro won 3-0 at home to Vitoria and Flamengo beat Gremio 2-0 at Rio's Maracana Stadium.
