DHAKA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- With due pomp and honor, the Armed Forces Day commemorating the martyrdom of the military personnel in Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War was observed on Wednesday.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday morning paid glowing tributes to the Liberation War martyrs who laid down their lives for the country's independence in 1971.
Hamid laid wreaths at the altar of Shikha Anirban (eternal flame) in the morning and stood in solemn silence for a while to pay respect to the martyrs.
Hasina placed a floral wreath before the flame for honoring the nation's martyrs.
A contingent of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force presented a salute on the occasion.
Chief of Army Staff in Bangladesh General Aziz Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed and Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat paid tribute as well.
