NAIROBI, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Kenya women's national team is out to secure revenge when they host Ghana in an international friendly match in Nairobi on Wednesday.
This will be the first of three matches that Kenya is lining up in their build up for the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) finals, which will be staged in Accra, Ghana from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1.
Kenya will also play Uganda on Saturday and Cameroon on a date yet to be decided next week.
"It is important for the girls to get into competition mood and have their focus on giving the best performance," said head coach David Ouma on Monday in Nairobi.
"This team has talent and is hardworking and we will not cry over the short notice to start preparations."
Ouma says Kenya needs the caliber of strong opposition as Ghana to gauge their preparedness and has called on his side to hold nothing back as they seek revenge after the West African side beat them 3-1 in the 2016 AWCON in Cameroon.
"Ghana is a giant in women football and they will like to come in Nairobi and dictate the pace. But playing such opposition is what will offer my team the edge and open up any frailties in the defense line," said Ouma.
Kenya is returning to the AWCON for the second time in a row and will join defending champion Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Algeria, South Africa, Zambia and hosts Ghana in the finals where the top three sides will qualify for the FIFA women's World Cup in France in 2019.
"I have learnt the strength and weaknesses of all the players and I want them to go out and prove their call to national team was on merit," said Ouma.
"We played Ghana in AWCON 2016 in Cameroon losing 3-1; we learned our mistakes and come Wednesday I believe we shall beat them," added Ouma. Ghana arrived in Nairobi on Sunday. Enditem
