NEW DELHI, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and 30 doctors injured in a road accident in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said Saturday.
"The accident occurred when a bus carrying a team of doctors collided with another vehicle on Kedgoan bypass in Ahmednagar late Friday night," a police official said.
While the bus driver died in the impact of the crash, the injured doctors have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where a few are said to be in serious condition, he added.
The doctors of a reputed hospital were going to Aurangabad town from state capital Mumbai to attend a medical conference when the mishap happened.
Local media reports said, quoting eye-witnesses, that the bus was travelling at high speed as a result of which the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the crash.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said.
India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
