SINGAPORE, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality would take advantage of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity to lure tourists from Singapore, a Chongqing tourism official said here on Monday.

Wang Dingguo, deputy chief of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, made the remarks in his speech at a conference to promote Chongqing's new tour products, which was held at the Singapore China Culture Center.

According to Wang, the number of tourists in organized tours from Singapore to Chongqing has reached 127,000 in 2017, a rise of 21.6 percent from the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, the visitors from Chongqing to Singapore has amounted to 174,000 last year, recording a year-on-year rise of 22.8 percent.

To cater to the influx of visitors, flights connecting Singapore and Chongqing have risen from five per week to 14 per week, he added.

Wang expressed the hope that Chongqing would make good use of the demonstration initiative to attract more Singaporean tourists.

The China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity aims to conduct pilot cooperation in various fields, including financial services, aviation, logistics and information technology.

It is the third such cooperation initiative between China and Singapore, following the Suzhou Industrial Park established in China's eastern province of Jiangsu in 1994, and the Tianjin Eco-city inaugurated in 2008 in north China.
