SANTIAGO, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- One of the most important contemporary art fairs, "Art Stgo," brought together more than 150 artists this weekend to the country's capital during its fifth annual event.

In addition to exhibiting their works, emerging and established artists were able to sell their work during the art fairs as well, which opened on Saturday and will last for two days.

"The event is for art lovers. The artists are here to talk and answer questions, and anyone who wants to or is interested in art can come here for free," photographer and musician Alejandro Gatta said.

This type of event, Gatta said, is key for creating support for entrepreneurial artists because it "forms a cultural web of art, of folklore" which extends over a space of 2,000 square meters.

The art fair takes place a the 22,000 square meter Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center in the heart of the city.

This year's Art Stgo was proposed as a way to "invoke a cultural walk where you can stroll through the historic building view artwork and then walk through the city," Nicole Andreu, manager and curator said.

In addition to the art, there were also talks and panels for people of all ages.

The black and white photos of famous singers by Maria Jesus Saez were just a few of the pieces on exhibit. The pieces were elaborated with colorful string as a way to rediscover "a new art form in plastic by way of a preconceived reality."
