YANGON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were killed by flooding in Myanmar as of Wednesday since heavy rains hit the country over the last two months, according to the National Natural Disaster Management Committee and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Thursday.

Mon state led with a death toll of six due to the severe flooding, followed by Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Tanintharyi and Nay Pyi Taw regions and Shan and Kayin states.

There are about 55 temporary camps accommodating over 20,138 flood-hit victims so far, said the authorities.

Relief operations and provision of humanitarian assistance to the flood victims are being carried out by the authorities.

Due to the torrential rainfall and strong wind, houses, bridges and roads have also been destroyed by flooding in some regions and states in southern part of the country since last week of July.
