KABUL, July 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 25 militants were killed and five others injured during airstrikes and clashes in Afghanistan on Sunday night, authorities said Monday.

In two incidents, 11 militants were killed after U.S. and NATO-led coalition forces launched two drone strikes in Burka and Dahana-i-Ghori districts of northern Baghlan province overnight, provincial Governor Abdul Hai Nemati told Xinhua.

Afghan security forces and U.S. and NATO-led coalition troops have increased ground and air offensives against militants in the last few months as the militants frequently attack government interests across the country.

In eastern Ghazni province, six Taliban militants lost their lives and five militants injured after they clashed with security forces in Chahar Dewal village of Andar district, provincial Police Chief Farid Ahmad Mashal told Xinhua.

In addition, Afghan air force launched an airstrike against an Islamic State (IS) hideout in Sado Tangai village of Nawa district in Ghazni last night, killing eight IS fighters, he said.

A militants' defense fighting position and a vehicle were also destroyed by the sortie, he noted.

The Taliban and the IS group have yet to make comments.
