URUMQI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Former Spanish international footballer Jose Antonio Reyes has joined China League One side Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard FC until the end of the season.
The 35-year-old former Arsenal winger joins Xinjiang on a free transfer after his contract with Spanish Second Division side Cordoba expired.
With 13 games of the season completed, Xinjiang are without a win and remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and had prioritized the signing of a forward to add some firepower to a team that has so far scored just four goals in 2018.
"When I played for Arsenal Thierry Henry helped me a lot. Now it's my turn to help the youngsters here grow and find the right path to achieve their objectives in Xinjiang," Reyes said.
"Our team needs more victories to avoid relegation," the Utrera-born winger added.
Reyes signed for Premier League side Arsenal in 2004 after establishing himself as one of Spain's hottest young talents while at Sevilla. Following a spell with Atletico Madrid, he rejoined Sevilla in 2012 and won the Europa League three years in a row with his hometown club.
Reyes won 21 caps for Spain and represented his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
