MAIMANA, Afghanistan, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Taliban militants have gunned down a pro-government militia commander named Mohammad Naem in Faryab province of northern Afghanistan, provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yurash said Saturday.
Taliban militants, according to the official, shot dead commander Mohammad Naem in Kohistanat district on late Friday night.
The official added that Naem just recently gave up fighting and used to live in Taliban-controlled areas.
Taliban militants who are in control of parts of the restive Faryab province and threatening the provincial capital Maimana, are yet to make comments.
