SANAA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels on Tuesday fired a ballistic missile at the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait in the southwest, but it was intercepted.

The Houthi-controlled Saba news agency reported that the missile was aimed at the Saudi Arabian oil giant Aramco in the region.

But the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV reported that the Saudi air defense intercepted and destroyed the missile fired at Khamis Mushait in the Saudi southwestern region of Asir.

The missile was fired hours after UN Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths left the Yemeni rebel-held capital Sanaa, following his four-day visit to negotiate with the Houthis over resuming peace talks with the exiled Yemeni government.

The attack also came hours after the pro-government Yemeni troops, supported by the Saudi-led coalition, seized control of the airport in the port city of Hodeidah and advanced towards the seaport.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab coalition in a war against the Iranian-allied Shiite Houthis to support the Yemeni exiled government since March 2015.

Tuesday's missile attack was part of frequent attacks against various areas in the kingdom from the Houthis, with the majority of the missiles reportedly intercepted.
