KIEV, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The largest airport in Ukraine hopes to get a financial boost from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League finals slated for later this week, a senior airport official said here Wednesday.
"We expect to earn 15-20 million hryvnyas (about 575,000-767,000 U.S. dollars) in direct aviation revenues," said Georgy Zubko, the deputy head of the Boryspil International Airport.
The 2018 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool will be held at the Olympic stadium on Saturday.
On the eve of the final, the airport is expected to serve more than 70 charter flights with fans.
Furthermore, the airport is counting on the increase of non-aviation revenues, such as income from duty-free shops and restaurants, Zubko said.
On Thursday, the UEFA Women's Champions League final between Wolfsburg, Germany and Lyon, France will take place at the Dynamo stadium in the Ukrainian capital.
The Ukrainian authorities said earlier that more than 60,000 foreign fans will visit Kiev for the events.
Located 20 km southeast of Kiev, Boryspil is the busiest airport in Ukraine, covering about 67 percent of the passenger traffic in the country. It provides service to 50 international and domestic airlines operating on about 100 regular routes.
