KIEV, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The Olympic stadium in Kiev is completely ready to host the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool on May 26.
Ukrainian Youth and Sports Minister Igor Zhdanov said on Wednesday, "I hope, we will host the UEFA Champions League final-2018 at a decent level."
During the four-month preparation for the final, the stadium has undergone the modernization of its roof, energy supply network, emergency response systems and other upgrades, the minister said.
According to him, 500 surveillance cameras were installed at more than 70,000-seat stadium to better monitor the security situation at the venue.
Ukraine spent 3.9 million U.S. dollars from its budget to prepare the Olympic stadium for the final, Zhdanov said.
The Olympic stadium, which was the venue for the final match of Euro 2012 soccer championship co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland, was built in 1923, but was renovated five times.
After its latest reconstruction for the Euro 2012, the arena became a multifunctional venue suitable for hosting not only football matches, but also concerts and track and field competitions.
The UEFA has selected the Olympic stadium to host the 2018 Champions League final in September 2016. Enditem
