SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- A nine-member group of Taliban militants have given up fighting and handed over their weapons to police in the northern Jawzjan province on Monday.
"Nine Taliban rebels under commander Mullah Maltan handed over their weapons to police and vowed to live in peace in their community," provincial police chief Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told reporters.
The militants were involved in anti-government activities in Khawja Dako and Dasht-e-Laili areas over the past seven years, the official said, adding more militants would surrender to authorities in the future.
Taliban militants are yet to make comment on the report.
