TOKYO, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed higher Wednesday on stronger U.S. stocks overnight ahead of trade talks between the United States and the European Union.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 103.77 points, or 0.46 percent, from Tuesday at 22,614.25.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 6.62 points, or 0.38 percent, higher at 1,753.48.
Trading volume on the main section came to 1,138.15 million shares, down from Tuesday's 1,246.50 million shares.
Among all shares listed on the First Section, advancing issues outnumbered decliners 1,267 to 729, with 106 ending the day unchanged.
Gainers were led by oil and coal product, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel issues.
The day's turnover was around 1,984.6 billion yen (17.85 billion U.S. dollars).
