GHAZNI, Afghanistan, June 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 militants and three security personnel were killed and the Taliban's attempts to overrun Jaghato district in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province were repulsed on Thursday, spokesman for provincial government Mohammad Aref Nuri said.
Taliban militants, according to the official, launched major offensives on security checkpoints in Jaghato district early Thursday, and security forces retaliated, forcing militants to flee after leaving 20 bodies behind and 10 others injured.
Nuri said four security personnel were also injured in the fighting.
The government forces would continue to chase the militants elsewhere in the restive district to ensure law and order in Jaghato and adjoining areas, said the official.
The Taliban outfit which has intensified activities since the end of ceasefire on Sunday night, has yet to make comment on the situation.
