MINSK, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Belarus and Russia have agreed on mutual recognition of visas issued to foreigners coming for the FIFA World Cup and European Games.
An intergovernmental agreement on the mutual recognition was signed by Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov here on Tuesday.
Makei told reporters that foreign fans in Russia can travel through Belarus visa-free during the 2018 FIFA World Cup from June 4 to July 25. Russia will introduce visa-free entry for foreign fans attending the second European Games to be held in Minsk on June 20-30, 2019.
Belarus and Russia are coming closer to reaching a consensus in negotiations for a permanent visa recognition agreement, according to Makei.
Citizens of Belarus and Russia enjoy freedom of movement across each other's territory. The agreement being negotiated is aimed at solving the problems for citizens from a third country crossing the borders between the two countries.
