GHAZNI, Afghanistan, May 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 Taliban militants have been killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) they were making detonated accidently in Afghan province of Ghazni, a provincial government spokesman said Tuesday.
"The incident occurred in Guzara-e-Gilan village of Andar district on Monday afternoon. And those among the killed were several Taliban bomb-making experts," spokesman Harif Noori told Xinhua.
Taliban militants and Islamic State fighters have been using IEDs to make roadside bombs and landmines for targeting security forces, but the lethal home-made weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
On Monday, five police personnel were injured in an IED attack in Maywand district of southern Kandahar province, district police chief Bashir Ahmad told Xinhua earlier Tuesday.
The militant group has yet to make comment on the report.
