KATHMANDU, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on Thursday said that terrorist activities are the major security challenges for his country.
Addressing an event organized by the Nepali Military Academy in Bhaktapur on Thursday, the prime minister said that the country's security agencies including the Nepali Army should stay alert against domestic extremist forces which have been carrying out violent activities in various forms.
"Ongoing terrorist activities are posing direct challenge to peace, security, economy development and social unity of Nepal. Our security agencies should always be prepared to fight against such threats," the prime minister said.
Oli also said that some domestic extremist elements and international terrorist groups are promoting ethnic and regional conflicts thus posing challenges to security situation of Nepal.
Talking about modern security challenges brought about by the cyber crime, Oli stressed effective and reliable coordination among the security agencies to mitigate the security challenges.
"Cyber crime is one of the biggest security challenges in the 21st Century," Oli said.
Stating that Nepal is relatively in a stable and peaceful environment, Oli said, however, "we need to stay alert for threats likely to come in the near future."
