NEW DELHI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Feeble earthquake shocks hit India's northern state of Punjab on Monday, officials said.
According to Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred at 6:06 a.m. local time (0036 GMT).
"The epicentre of earthquake was Amritsar in Punjab located at 31.9 degrees north latitude and 74.8 degrees east longitude," the Indian Meteorological Department said. "The depth of the earthquake was 33 km."
Amritsar is the Sikh holy city of Punjab.
The earthquake was felt in the entire state and in neighbouring states, reports said. However, there were no reports of any damage or loss of lives in the earthquake.
